Live Scan Fingerprinting

Live Scan fingerprinting refers to both the technique and the technology used by law enforcement agencies and private facilities to capture fingerprints and palm prints electronically, without the need for the more traditional method of ink and paper.

Livescan fingerprinting is done in a similar fashion to the old ink and paper method. The finger is placed and rolled over a silicon pad and the print is digitally captured into a computer. With no ink and no mess. The computer encrypts the data, then sends the information and the prints to the FDLE then to the FBI, or we can print the fingerprints on a standard FBI FD258 fingerprint card.

Florida requires potential employees who’ll come in contact with children, the elderly and the mentally or physically challenged, to be live scan fingerprinted for a level 2 background check. Florida also requires many professional license holders to have a level 2 livescan background check.

The results are usually returned to FDLE and the regulating agency within 24 to 72 hours. It then may take several days for the agencies to have the results posted. It is VERY IMPORTANT to have the correct ORI number and agency ID number to prevent delays.
